Drawing classes with Kevin Dean:
These are some of the drawings I did during Kevin Deans classes. At first I think me and my peers were a little confused to why we were given the opportunity on a Wednesday afternoon to attend these drawing classes. We all thought it was a great option to build and discover how to draw better images using different mediums but the class it self didn't have much make-up or hair theme to it. Not a lot of people showed up to the class but the same small bunch would be seen there every week including myself which made it more enjoyable. I drawings really progressed each week and instead of seeing it as a chore I think we were quite excited to draw different objects such as vegetables, friends, peers, and even self portraits. I really enjoyed experimenting with different mediums especially charcoal seen in the portraits image of Grace and the pepper.
Phoebe Jacob Epstein - Peer portrait:
A started drawing my images in pencil then when I felt more confident outlining them with black felt tip marker. I think it adds much more depth to the image and I much prefer working with harder HD pencils on bigger sized images.
Me - self portrait:
My head shape in this was very difficult to perfect as it involved a lot of different angles.
Drawing the area of my mould placement:
My interpretation of a skull head that was sat in the middle of our table then rotated so we could attempt to draw different views of it :
This was definitely one of the harder ones as it had to consist of a lot of shading to transform from a 2D shape to 3D shape. The detail was quite particular to making it difficult to draw a replica of the Skull.
Drawing of a pepper using charcoal:
Three different vegetable were placed in front of us and we were asked to sketch one. I enjoyed drawing this one in this particular medium but it was hard to make the bottom look life like with including a lot of heavy shading which I thought would look a little overbearing if I smudged it with charcoal, a very heavy medium.
My prosthetic mould piece base:
I enjoyed trying to recreate the shape of this. It was quite interesting trying to draw an outline of a shape that presents itself of mainly colourless silicone.
Peer drawing of Grace:
This was definitely a challenge! I have always struggled drawing faces, eyes are especially hard to perfect and draw symmetrical! Kevin explained that a lot of people make the mistake of placing the eyes to far up the face as I did excluding any space for a forehead. They should be situated further down the face.
